Photographer
The most obvious career that utilizes the camera on a daily basis is a photographer. In order for a photographer to be a successful one, they must first have a good amount of knowledge and understanding of optics. The difference between a mediocre photographer and an excellent one is that the excellent photographer can use their knowledge of lights and reflection in order to produce a much more visually appealing photo.
A photographer usually has a large arsenal of lenses at their disposal. These lenses differ in length, and allow for either a larger field of view, or a larger magnification. On one end of the spectrum is the wide-angle lens, which is fairly short in length. Like the name suggests, the wide-angle lens allows for pictures with a wide angle of view while sacrificing a large amount of magnification. Since the lens is short, the focal length is also short. This lens is ideal if the photographer doesn’t want a single point of focus, but instead wants to display as much as possible, like in a picture of a cityscape. On the other end is the telephoto lens, which is much longer in length. The length also gives the lens a longer focal length, This lens allows the photographer to greatly magnify a distant object, while reducing the angle of view. A photographer would use this lens if they want a single point of focus that may be far away, such as a distant landmark.
One of the most common accessory that photographers use is a flash. As the name suggests, the flash is a device that emits a flash as you take a picture. This attachment is usually used where there isn't an adequate amount of light to take a good picture. Since light is required to be able to take pictures and see (see reflection), we can infer that the flash is important. Furthermore, using reflection, photographers can also use a flash to create more of a focus on a specific object by reflecting the light off of said object. Although almost every camera comes packaged with some sort of flash, photographers usually have an attachable flash. Having an attachable flash allows the photographer to project the artificial light from many other angles, rather than from just one. An attachable flash can also have a variety of settings, which allows the photographer to further adjust the lighting in the scene. In summary, the flash is truly an essential device for all photographers.
